Cam Murdoch’s Artistry Goes Beyond Music

As the founder of Future Surf Radio, Cam Murdoch’s commitment to fostering connections and building inclusive spaces resonates deeply within his musical endeavors. In a recent interview, Cam shared insights into his multifaceted approach to music and community, offering a glimpse into his upcoming projects and the profound influence of web3 technologies on his creative journey. When asked about how his role as a musician intertwines with community building, Cam advises us that he does not see them as separate missions.

“I’ve always wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself and so I always sought to create situations that would bring people together. I think in the act of doing it I created something much different than what I was executing on a “brand” level, but it was a pleasant surprise that a community of people has resonated with the earliest iterations of Future Surf as a brand. I think through it being super authentic, we’ve attracted people who don’t need to see or hear too much to get where we’re trying to go with this and that’s been beautiful.”

Murdoch’s latest single, “EVERGREEN,” serves as both a musical offering and a personal mantra. Reflecting on its inspiration, he revealed, “This song is a mantra attracting abundance into my life. I wrote this song at my lowest to manifest wealth and the healing of generational financial wounds.” Set to be part of his collaborative tape, “BIG DIVIDENDS,” with producer Divus P, Cam’s upcoming release promises a captivating narrative that cuts through musical boundaries.

Delving into the impact of web3 technologies on his work, Murdoch highlighted their role in fostering a supportive environment for innovative ideas. “Web3 gave me an environment in which people were financially supporting innovative ideas. The early success I experienced got me used to valuing my art for the first time” he shared. Embracing these technologies has expanded Murdoch’s creative toolkit, igniting his imagination and rekindling a sense of boundless possibility.

Beyond his own artistic endeavors, Murdoch is deeply committed to supporting emerging artists and fostering collaboration within the music industry. He emphasized the organic growth of community-driven initiatives, stating, “The best thing we could do was to not get in the way and try to learn from what was happening.” By providing funding and opportunities, Murdoch strives to add fuel to the fire of creativity, nurturing a diverse ecosystem of talent.

Authenticity lies at the heart of Murdoch’s creative process, as he navigates the delicate balance between personal expression and audience engagement. “The art itself has to come from the most honest place I can access because it’s that element that makes the art connect anyway,” he affirmed. Rejecting the pressure to conform to external expectations, Murdoch remains steadfast in his commitment to genuine self-expression.

In contemplating future projects, Murdoch’s enthusiasm is palpable. Alongside the release of “EVERGREEN,” he eagerly anticipates delving deeper into his anime/manga-inspired world, Surf Noir. With ambitious aspirations spanning multiple industries, including AI, gaming, and anime, Murdoch’s vision extends far beyond the realm of music.

“EVERGREEN is part of a project I have called BIG DIVIDENDS which will also lead back into my anime/ manga - inspired world Surf Noir. I’m excited about both, but Surf Noir represents my most ambitious hopes for my future in music, but also other industries like AI, gaming, and anime.”

For aspiring musicians and community builders navigating the fast-evolving landscape of music and technology, Cam offers sage advice rooted in passion and authenticity. “You have to like this shit,” he asserts. Emphasizing the importance of genuine interest and curiosity, Murdoch encourages individuals to embrace their inner nerds and pursue their creative endeavors with unwavering dedication.

“Don’t come to the tech space if you just want a bag, I mean get to the money, but it’s gonna be a pain if you don’t nerd out about just the possibilities of what you could make. I am a nerd. I geek out about connecting this to that and trying to break existing paradigms so for me, the revenue opportunities are just a means to an end. Ultimately I found out how to do everything I wanted to do at some sort of DIY scale because I was genuinely interested.”

In Cam Murdoch, music finds a visionary guide, leading the way toward a future where creativity thrives and communities flourish. As he continues to sculpt his unique blend of music and community, Murdoch’s influence resonates far beyond the confines of the industry, leaving an indelible mark on all who encounter his artistry.
